No Town officer or employee charged with the enforcement of any provision of this Code or other ordinance, while acting for the municipality in the line of duty, shall thereby render himself liable personally, and he is hereby relieved from all personal liability for any damage that may accrue to persons or property as a result of any lawful act required or permitted in the discharge of his official duties. Any suit instituted against any officer or employee because of an act performed by him in the lawful discharge of his duties and under the provisions of this Code or other ordinance shall be defended by the Town Counselor until the final termination of the proceedings.
