[HISTORY: Adopted by the Township Committee of the Township of Carneys Point 11-25-1968 as Ord. No. 206; amended in its entirety 9-22-1993 by Ord. No. 558. Subsequent amendments noted where applicable.]
A house and building numbering system is hereby established in the Township of Carneys Point. Said system shall be based in general on the division of east and west numbers at Broad Street in the Township of Carneys Point and the Borough of Penns Grove, and north and south numbers at State Highway No. 48, known as "Harding Highway," being an extension of East Main Street.
The Township Committee or its designee shall notify the owners of houses and buildings in the Township of the new number established for the individual property. Such notice shall be provided in writing. The owner shall, within 20 days after said notice, remove any old identifying numbers from the property and install the new number in compliance with this chapter.
The owner of each and every house, store, business, apartment or other principal building within the Township of Carneys Point which has been assigned a street number in accordance with this chapter shall cause same to be permanently and conspicuously placed and maintained as follows:
A. 
On buildings visible from the street, when said building is not more than 50 feet from the street: on, above or at the side of the main entrance door so that the number is discernible from the street.
B. 
On buildings more than 50 feet from the street or when the entrance to said building is not visible from the street: the number shall be located along a walk, driveway or other suitable location so that the number is discernible from the street.
C. 
On mailboxes, when the mailbox is at curbside or the street line.
A. 
Numerals shall be Arabic numbers of light, reflective materials, visible during daylight as well as evening and nighttime hours.
B. 
Size and location requirements. The numerals to be installed pursuant to this chapter shall comply with the following requirements:
(1) 
A building on a single lot shall have numbers four inches in height.
(2) 
When more than one building is on a single lot (such as an apartment building or complex), each building shall have numbers or letters with a minimum height of 12 inches and a width of two inches.
(3) 
Numerals shall be placed at least 30 inches but not more than 15 feet above ground level and so placed that trees, shrubs and other obstructions do not block the line of sight of the numerals from the street to the numeral.
(4) 
All mailboxes placed at curbside or the street line shall have numerals of at least three inches in height and 1 1/2 inches in width.
The Construction Code Official and the Construction Office for Carneys Point Township shall enforce this chapter and act as the designee of the Carneys Point Township Committee for such purpose.
Any owner failing to remove inaccurate identifying numerals or failing to install new numerals as required by this chapter shall be subject to a penalty of not more than $1,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 90 days, or both, for such violation.
