The duties of the Water and Wastewater Superintendent shall be as follows:
A. 
The Water and Wastewater Superintendent shall be charged with the responsibility for the operation, repairs and maintenance of the Town water distribution and sewage collection system. To that end, he or she shall supervise and participate in the operation of a water and wastewater treatment plant or pumping station and in the construction, maintenance, and repair of water and sewer lines. The Superintendent shall perform his or her work under the administrative direction of the Town Supervisor in accordance with established policy.
B. 
To make frequent inspection of water and wastewater plants and equipment in order to check operations and execute repairs; consult and advise contractors on specifications for additions to or repair of Town systems in consort with the Town Engineer; perform inspections on all repairs or additions to Town systems; coordinate and inspect new water and sewer service installations to ensure conformance with standards; develop and perform maintenance programs for all equipment, machinery and physical plants owned or possessed by the Town Sewer and Water Departments including vehicles, buildings and grounds.
C. 
To supervise and participate in the operation of the plants to assure the most economical and efficient use of equipment supplies, and staff; oversee training and education of wastewater and water department employees.
D. 
To create and implement policies and procedures for operation and maintenance of the wastewater and water collection and distribution systems; act as safety officer responsible for design and implementation of safety policy and procedures.
E. 
To oversee wastewater and water department budget which includes budget requests and justification of expenditures; assist Town Board in developing annual district operating budgets.
F. 
To maintain all finance and activities records on a monthly basis and report status to the Town Supervisor; maintain monthly operational and auxiliary reports for regulatory agencies and act as liaison to regulatory agency; report to the Town Board on water- and sewer-related issues.
G. 
To direct all laboratory sampling and testing procedures as well as quality control/quality assurance plans; collect water samples and coordinate testing as required; collect wastewater samples and coordinate testing as required.
