The intention of this article is to provide additional members to serve on the Zoning Board of Appeals as may be deemed necessary by its Chairman in order to efficiently maintain the conduct of affairs of the Zoning Board of Appeals.
The Town Board is hereby authorized to appoint two additional members to the Zoning Board of Appeals who shall be known as "ad hoc members." The members so appointed shall serve for a period of two years with the term commencing on January 1, 1997.
The ad hoc members of the Zoning Board of Appeals appointed pursuant to this article shall sit at such regularly scheduled Zoning Board of Appeals meetings as the Chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals shall determine and shall possess such powers, duties and responsibilities as the other members of the Zoning Board of Appeals.
The ad hoc members appointed pursuant to this article shall be compensated in a manner as may be determined by the Town Board.

Pursuant to New York State Town Law § 267, the Zoning Board of Appeals shall consist of five members appointed by the Town Board. Of the members of the Board first appointed after the effective date of this legislation, one shall hold office for the term of one year, one for the term of two years, one for the term of three years, one for the term of four years, and one for the term of five years, from and after his/her appointment. Their successors shall be appointed for the term of five years from and after the expiration of the terms of their predecessors in office. Permanent vacancies on the Zoning Board of Appeals shall be filled by the Town Board.
