The proprietor of each hotel, motel, rooming
house and room reseller within the Town shall keep or cause to be
kept a list of the names and addresses of those persons registering
for occupancy and shall further require that each registrant provide
identification and that the means of identification be recorded by
the proprietor or his/her agent. Identification, as referred to herein,
shall include, but not be limited to, a driver's license, state identification
card, social security card, vehicle registration or title documentation,
birth certificate or credit card. The records required to be maintained
by this section shall not be disclosed to the general public but shall
be subject to inspection by the Public Safety Department of the Town
for a period of 24 months. Identification required of the registrant
pursuant to this section shall apply only to the primary registrant
and shall not be deemed to include accompanying guests. Nothing within
this section shall be construed so as to impose upon the proprietor
a duty to guarantee the identification of registrants.
