Separation from the service of the Township may result from voluntary resignation of the employee or by the termination of his or her services by the Mayor and Council.
If possible, Township employees who resign shall tender their resignations, in writing, at least two weeks prior to the effective date of the resignations in order to provide sufficient time for appointing a successor.
If a Township employee resigns, the Personnel Committee of the Council shall interview him or her to determine, if possible, whether there is a reason other than that stated for the employee's leaving the service of the Township.
All resignations, supported by any pertinent data available, should, whenever possible, be referred to the Council before the effective date of the resignation.
The termination of an employee's services for cause shall be accomplished by a recommendation for such action, in writing, which has been referred to, reviewed and approved by the Mayor and Council, provided that the employee has been given notice of the same pursuant to N.J.S.A. 11A:8-1 and has further been given an opportunity to have said charges presented against him or her. For the purpose of this section, "employee" does not include any employee appointed for a specific term, such as the Clerk, secretaries to various boards, Commissioner, Engineer, Auditor and Attorneys.
