A. 
Members of the Department carrying the National Colors shall not dip it to any person or upon any occasion.
B. 
Members of the Department shall salute the National Colors as it passes or is presented on all public occasions, ceremonies or parades, unless performing police duty Chief of Police.

A. 
The Village Board has the power to make such awards as it deems to be merited by an outstanding act on the part of a member of the Department, upon recommendation by the Chief of Police.
B. 
Number and type of awards:
(1) 
Medal of Honor: gold medal with gold bar (inscription "Honor"). The Department Medal of Honor may be awarded to the member of the Department who intelligently and in the line of police duty outstandingly distinguishes himself by the performance of an act of gallantry and intrepidity at imminent personal hazard of life, with knowledge of the risk, above and beyond the call of duty.
(2) 
Combat Medal: gold medal with gold bar (inscription "Combat"). A Police Combat Medal may be awarded for the successful performance of an act of extraordinary heroism while engaged in personal combat with an armed adversary, at imminent personal hazard of life in the intelligent performance of duty.
(3) 
Medal for Bravery: silver medal with silver bar (inscription "Bravery"). A Medal for Bravery may be awarded for an act of personal bravery intelligently performed, involving personal risk of life or involving grave personal danger.
(4) 
Meritorious Police Service: bronze bar (inscription "Merit"). This may be awarded for an act of intelligent and valuable police service or accomplishment demonstrating special faithfulness or perseverance or for submission of a device or method adopted by the Department to increase efficiency in administrative or tactical procedures. It may also be awarded to a member receiving his 10th monthly recognition for efficient police service. Upon receipt for this reason, the recipient shall turn in the departmental Recognition Breast Bar previously awarded.
(5) 
Civilian Commendation: laminated letter plague. This may be awarded to a civilian who has rendered assistance to a police officer in an emergency or who has rendered outstanding assistance to the Police Department as a whole.
(6) 
Professionalization Bar: a Professionalization Bar may be awarded for the successful completion of two or four years of college or the successful completion of the FBI National Academy.
(7) 
Purple Heart: a Purple Heart Bar may be awarded to any member wounded in combat in the line of duty.
A. 
In addition to the exception awards outlined above, recognition shall be made of acts of efficient police activity when warranted.
B. 
Sergeants and above shall forward to the Chief of Police, on a monthly basis, recommendations for recognition of efficient police service. Individual recognitions shall be noted in the officer's personal jacket.
C. 
Five such recognitions may constitute a departmental recognition, and the member shall be awarded the breast bar after evaluation by the Chief of Police and the Commissioner.
D. 
Procedure:
(1) 
Recommendations shall be submitted as soon as practical after occurrence of the incident.
(2) 
Awards shall be presented at a time and place to be designated by the Chief of Police.
In the event of subsequent awards for the same or other categories, involving breast bars, the member shall wear the one designating the highest award. Subsequent awards are noted thereon by oak-leaf clusters as follows:
A. 
Medal of Honor and Combat Medal: gold.
B. 
Medal for Bravery: silver.
C. 
Meritorious Police Service: bronze.
