[HISTORY: Adopted by the Town Board of the Town of Barton 9-19-2000 by Ord. No. 00-06. Amendments noted where applicable.]
Each owner of a property for which a building permit was issued has been assigned an address number also known as a "fire/emergency number." These numbers were supplied by the Town of Barton at the time of the building permit's issuance and were to be installed on the principal structure of the property.
Due to the inability of emergency and medical personnel to detect and recognize an address number attached to a building which is located some distance from the roadway or one that is located in a wooded area, it has been deemed necessary to install a fire/emergency number sign in front of each property.
The fire/emergency number signs to be issued will be uniform throughout the Town of Barton. Said signs will be six inches wide by 18 inches long, double-faced, "emergency" blue reflective surfaces with white reflective numbers applied and mounted in a vertical position on a green steel post.
The signs described in §§ 169-2 and 169-3 above shall be displayed in such a manner as to provide immediate recognition to emergency and medical personnel, namely installed as follows: within the road right-of-way, 10 feet to 20 feet to the right of driveway proper and the face of the number sign to be approximately three feet to four feet above the ground elevation at its center point. In the event the above location cannot be used, the Town Board or its designee shall determine the proper location.
It shall be unlawful for any person to remove such designated fire/emergency number signs once said number signs have been installed (except for repair or replacement of the same).
The above-described fire/emergency number signs for new residences constructed after the initial sign project installation shall be handled in the following manner:
A.
In conjunction with the issuance of a building permit, the Building Inspector for the Town of Barton shall include the cost of the sign and installation in the cost of the building permit and show it as a line-item charge. The Town of Barton or its designee will install the fire/emergency number sign when all construction and final grade is complete.
B.
This chapter is the authority by which the Building Inspector can charge for the sign. Those monies will be passed along to the Town of Barton.
C.
The cost of the fire/emergency number signs for residences constructed after the initial project installation will be established by the Town Board. This item and amount will be included in the Town of Barton Fee Schedule.[1]
