Proposed Zoning Ordinance text amendments may be submitted to the
Planning Commission by the Board of County Commissioners, any citizen,
organization, governmental agency, or by the Planning Commission on
its own initiative.
Before any text amendment can be adopted, a duly advertised public
hearing shall be held by the Planning Commission and the Board of
County Commissioners. Such hearings may be held jointly or separately
by the respective Commissions at the discretion of the Board of County
Commissioners.
The public hearing notice shall contain a summary of the proposed
text amendment and the date, time and place of the public hearing
and shall comply with the requirements of Maryland Annotated Code,
Land Use Article, Section 4- 203, as amended from time to time.
Notwithstanding
the foregoing, all text and map amendment requests received after
4:00 p.m. local prevailing time on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, will
be held in abeyance and considered as part of the drafting of the
new Calvert County Zoning Ordinance unless the Board of County Commissioners
finds that a request should be considered because it either corrects
a mistake or is necessary to address public health, safety, or welfare.
Requestors not the subject of an exemption above will be afforded
a period of thirty (30) days after the effective date of the new Calvert
County Zoning Ordinance to request revival of their request if not
satisfied how it was addressed in the new Zoning Ordinance.
