As used herein, the following terms shall have the meanings
indicated:
CAT
Any member of the feline species, male, female or altered.
No person shall own, keep, harbor or maintain any cat which
has attained the age of four months, or younger if so prescribed by
New Jersey State Department of Health guidelines in a rabies emergency,
within the Township of Washington unless such cat is licensed in accordance
with the following procedures and vaccinated against rabies by a licensed
veterinarian in accordance with the most current Compendium of Animal
Rabies Vaccines and Recommendations for Immunization published by
the National Association of State Public Health Veterinarians, evidenced
by a certificate of vaccination in a form recommended by the State
of New Jersey. No more than four cats may be registered, harbored
or maintained in any residence.

Written application for a cat license shall be made to the Township Clerk on such form as shall be prescribed by the Township Clerk. All applications for a cat license shall be accompanied by a licensing fee as set forth in Chapter
212, Fees, together with a current certificate of vaccination. Upon satisfactory completion of the written application, submission of a current certification of vaccination and payment of the cat license fee hereunder, the Township Clerk shall issue a cat license and registration tag for the subject cat. The fee for the license and registration tag shall be the same for each renewal.
The licensing period shall run from January 1 to December 31
of each year. A license issued pursuant to this article shall be valid
for a period of one year computed from January 1 at or immediately
prior to issuance of such license.

The registration tag issued by the Township Clerk shall be affixed to the collar of the cat and shall be maintained thereon. Registration tags shall not be transferable from one cat to another, nor shall there be any refund of all or any part of a licensing fee, once paid. In the event that a registration tag is lost, the Township Clerk shall issue a replacement registration tag upon the filing with the Township Clerk of an affidavit of lost registration tag on behalf of the subject cat. In the event that a registration tag is lost, the Township Clerk shall issue a replacement registration tag upon the filing with the Township Clerk of an affidavit of lost registration tag on behalf of the subject animal and payment of a replacement fee as set forth in Chapter
212, Fees.
The provisions of this article shall be enforced by the Police
Department and the Department of Health of the Township of Washington.
Any person who is in violation of the provisions of this article shall be subject to a fine not to exceed the maximum penalty permitted under §
1-1 of Chapter
1, General Provisions, of the Code of the Township of Washington.
