The Township of South Whitehall is hereby authorized to enter
into the agreement, a copy of which is attached hereto and made a
part hereof as Exhibit A, with Upper Macungie Township, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania
pursuant to which the police department of Upper Macungie Township
will be empowered to act as police officers of South Whitehall Township
and the police department of the Township of South Whitehall will
be empowered to act as police officers of Upper Macungie Township
pursuant to the terms and conditions of the agreement.
The President of the Board of Commissioners of South Whitehall
Township, or Vice-President in the absence of the President, and the
Secretary of the Township are hereby authorized and directed to execute
the agreement with the Township of Upper Macungie on behalf of the
Board of Commissioners of the Township of South Whitehall.
This article, entered into under the authority of the Intergovernmental
Cooperation Act, 53 Pa.C.S.A. § 2301, et seq., shall become
effective immediately following the date of adoption by the Board
of Commissioners. The agreement shall become effective as hereinbefore
stated.

The Township of South Whitehall wishes to participate with the
Township of Upper Saucon, the Borough of Coopersburg, the Borough
of Emmaus, the Township of Salisbury and the Township of Lower Milford
in an intermunicipal, cooperative project to develop a regional information
sharing program through the use of a centralized computer database
and in-car laptop computers and to apply for a grant-in-aid from the
Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development as such
grants are available to assist such intermunicipal projects through
the Shared Municipal Services Program.
The Chief of the South Whitehall Township Police Department is hereby authorized to make an application to the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development for a grant-in-aid as described in §
62-4 above.
The Township of South Whitehall hereby allocates municipal funds in the amount based on the Township's pro rata share of the matching funds needed to finance the project described in §
62-4. The maximum amount expended shall not exceed $15,000 without further authorization of the Board of Commissioners. The Board of Commissioners further recognizes that each of the six participating municipalities will commit funds in an amount equal to 1/6 of the total local funds needed to finance the project and that the total amount of the local funds allocated by the six participating municipalities will equal 50% of the total project costs with the remaining 50% being funded through grants-in-aid provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development.
