A. 
The Village Board of the Village of Lindenhurst is hereby directed to provide for the purchase, acquisition, installation, operation, maintenance and use of the parking meters provided for in this article and to maintain said meters in good, workable condition, and said parking meters shall be installed on the curb, sidewalks or portion of the street immediately adjacent to or in front of the parking space designated, as provided in § 185-39 hereof.
B. 
Each parking meter shall be set so as to display a signal showing legal parking upon the deposit of the appropriate coin or coins, lawful money of the United States of America, for the period of time prescribed by this article. Each meter shall be so arranged that, upon the expiration of the lawful time limit, it will indicate by a proper visible signal that the lawful parking period had expired, and in such cases, the right of such vehicle to occupy such space shall terminate, and the operator, owner or person in charge thereof shall be subject to the penalties hereinafter provided.
A. 
Except in a period of emergency determined by an officer of the Fire or Police Department or in compliance with the directions of a police officer or traffic control device or signal, when any vehicle shall be parked in any parking space alongside or next to which a parking meter is located, the operator of such vehicle shall, upon entering said parking meter space, immediately deposit or cause to be deposited in said meter such proper coin of the United States of America as is required for such parking meter and as is designated by the proper direction on the meter; and when required by the directions on the meter, the operator of such vehicle, after the deposit of the proper coin or coins, shall also set in operation the timing mechanism of such meter, in accordance with directions properly appearing therein; and failure to deposit such proper coin and to set the timing mechanism in operation when so required shall constitute a violation of this article. Upon the deposit of such coin and the setting of the time mechanism in operation when so required, the parking space may be lawfully occupied by such vehicle during the period of time which has been prescribed as indicated on said meter in which the parking space is located. Any person placing a vehicle in a parking meter space adjacent to a meter which indicates that unused time has been left in the meter by the previous occupant of the space shall not be required to deposit a coin, so long as his occupancy of said space does not exceed the indicated unused parking time. If said vehicle shall remain parked in any such parking space beyond the parking time limit set for the parking space and if the meter shall indicate such illegal parking, then, and in that event, such vehicle shall be considered as parking overtime and beyond the period of legal parking time, and such parking shall be deemed a violation of this article.
B. 
Notwithstanding anything contained in this article to the contrary, the Village Board may, be resolution, from time to time, discontinue use of parking meters.
C. 
Notwithstanding anything contained in this article to the contrary, it shall be legal for disabled or handicapped persons to park their vehicles at any metered location in the Incorporated Village of Lindenhurst without depositing the appropriate coin or coins, provided that the following conditions are met:
(1) 
Other than depositing money in the meter, the vehicles must be legally parked in all respects pursuant to the Village of Lindenhurst and New York State vehicle and traffic laws.
(2) 
There shall be clearly displayed on the vehicle a sticker issued by the County of Suffolk to disabled and handicapped persons, which sticker includes the International Symbol of Access for Disabled Persons.
A. 
Parking a vehicle in a designated space in a parking meter zone shall be lawful upon deposit of $0.25 for each two hours, to a maximum of two hours. No vehicle shall remain parked at any metered space continuously for more than two hours.

B. 
Said parking meters shall be operated in said parking zones every day between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. (prevailing time) except Sundays and holidays.
A. 
The following named areas, streets and/or portions of streets within the Village of Lindenhurst shall be designated as parking meter zones, and within those parking meter zones, and in such other zones as may hereafter be established, the Village Board is hereby directed and authorized to mark off individual parking spaces, said parking spaces to be designated by lines painted or durably marked upon the surface of the street. The parking of a vehicle in any area other than within such designated parking spaces shall be a violation.
(1) 
South Wellwood Avenue (both sides) from Hoffman Avenue south to Gates Avenue.
(2) 
North Wellwood Avenue (both sides) from Hoffman Avenue north to Freemont Street.
(3) 
Bristol Street (both sides) from North Wellwood Avenue east for about 110 feet.
(4) 
Parking bays under the railroad viaduct along East Hoffman Avenue, from Wellwood Avenue east to the last parking bay, subject to any lease or rental agreement with the Long Island Rail Road and/or the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
(5) 
West Hoffman Avenue (south side) from a point 35 feet east of South First Street to a point 43 feet west of South Wellwood Avenue.
(6) 
West Hoffman Avenue (north side), north of the railroad viaduct from North Wellwood Avenue to a point 30 feet east of School Street.

East Hoffman Avenue (north side), from North Wellwood Avenue east for 500 feet.

Auburn Street (south side) from a point 45 feet east of Wellwood Avenue east for 145 feet.

(10) 
South Pennsylvania Avenue (east side) from a point 30 feet south of East Hoffman Avenue south for 161 feet.

A. 
Violations. It shall be unlawful and a violation of the provisions of this article for any person to:
(1) 
Cause, allow, permit or suffer any vehicle registered in the name of or operated by such person to be parked overtime or beyond the period of legal parking time established for any parking meter zone, as herein described, or to deposit in any parking meter any coin for the purpose of parking beyond the maximum legal parking time for the particular parking meter zone.
(2) 
Permit any vehicle to remain or be placed in any parking space adjacent to any parking meter while said meter is displaying a signal indicating that the vehicle occupying such parking space has already been parked beyond the period prescribed for such parking space.
(3) 
Deface, injure, tamper with, open or willfully break, destroy or impair the usefulness of any parking meter installed under the provisions of this chapter.
(4) 
Deposit or cause to be deposited in any parking meter any slug, device or metal substance or other substitute for lawful coins of the United States of America.
B. 
Enforcement. The Village Board of Trustees is hereby empowered and authorized to appoint one or more parking meter attendants for the purpose of enforcing Subsection A(1) and (2) of this section. Such duly appointed attendant(s) shall be empowered to issue summonses for violations of the above-stated subsection.
