As used in this article, the following terms
shall have the meanings indicated:
BICYCLE
A vehicle with wheels propelled by the person riding the
same by foot or hand power or by a helper motor having capacity of
less than 50 cubic centimeters' piston displacement and rated not
more than two brake horsepower and capable of a maximum speed of not
more than 30 miles per hour and equipped with automatic transmission
and operable pedals.
IN-LINE SKATES
Shoes, skates or footwear with a single row of roller wheels.
ROLLER SKATES
Any recreational device consisting of a set of two-wheeled
platforms, whether or not permanently affixed to a pair of shoes or
boots, and regardless of the configuration of the wheels thereon,
designed to be worn on the user's feet and used to propel the user
in a manner similar to ice skates.
SKATEBOARD/SCOOTER
Includes a single platform mounted on wheels designed for
riding underfoot, or a board with roller skate wheels or other similar
wheels, attached to the underside, with or without a mechanism or
other device for steering while being used, operated or ridden.

A. Pedestrians shall have the right-of-way in the use
of sidewalks in the Village of Pittsford.
B. Whenever any person shall operate a bicycle, in-line
skates, skateboards, scooter or roller skates upon a sidewalk, such
person shall yield the right-of-way to any pedestrian and shall give
an audible signal before overtaking and passing such pedestrian.
C. No person shall operate a bicycle, in-line skates,
skateboards, scooter or roller skates later than 1/2 hour after sunset
or earlier than 1/2 hour before sunrise, upon a sidewalk, unless they
are equipped with proper safety equipment or reflective lighting devices.
D. The operator of a bicycle, in-line skates, skateboards,
scooter or roller skates emerging from an alley, walkway, driveway
or building shall, upon approaching a sidewalk, yield the right-of-way
to all pedestrians approaching or using the sidewalk.

A. Bicycle riding is prohibited on the Erie Canal towpath
between the Main Street bridge and the State Street Bridge, and dismounting
of bicycles on the towpath in that area is required.

B. In-line skates, skateboards, scooter or roller skates
shall be operated at no greater than normal walking speed on the Erie
Canal Towpath between the North Main Street Bridge and the State Street
Bridge.
C. In-line skates, skateboards, scooter or roller skates
shall be operated at no greater than normal walking speed on sidewalks
within the village.

A. No person shall construct, place or use ramp-like
structures on any portion of publicly owned properties. Ramp-like
structures shall include all ramps commonly referred to such, platforms
manufactured or contrived surfaces of any and every pattern or configuration
and other similar devices and things designed for use for riding a
bicycle, skateboard, scooter, in-line skates or rollers skates.
B. No person shall wax or otherwise lubricate any public
curb or steps for skateboard and/or in-line skate purposes and use.
C. No person shall ride or propel a bicycle, roller skates,
skateboards, scooter or in-line skates except in a prudent and careful
manner and unless such a person be capable of efficient control, and
such bicycle, roller skates, skateboards, scooter, or in-line skates
are operated with reasonable regard to the safety of the operator
and other persons upon the public sidewalks of the village.
