A. The Town Board, by resolution, may establish advisory
committees for such purposes as it may deem necessary to assist it in the
performance of its duties.
B. The term "committee" shall be deemed to be a generic
designation and shall also include any group appointed by the Town Board as
set forth in Section A above, including but not limited to any advisory counsel,
commission, counsel, advisory committee, task force or any other similar nomenclature.

The Town Board shall determine the composition of such committees, including
the number of its members. Priority in membership shall be first accorded
to Town residents. Members shall serve without compensation and at the pleasure
of the Town Board.

A. In each instance, the Town Board must designate the purpose
for the formation of the committee, its scope and/or task and its duration.
B. Each committee shall be accountable to the Town Board
unless otherwise directed. Minutes shall be kept during each meeting and shall
be filed with the Town Clerk within 14 days of any meeting.
Committees may incur such expenses in the performance of their duties
as may be appropriated therefor by the Town Board.
This chapter shall supersede, in its application to the Town of Southold,
Subdivision 17 of § 64 of the Town Law.
This chapter shall take effect immediately.
