The following does hereby constitute the administrative rules and regulations
governing the employment of personnel by the Incorporated Village of New Hyde
Park.
As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings
indicated:
EMPLOYEE
Any person receiving compensation from the village on an hourly or
weekly basis.
All regular employees shall be hired on one of the following bases:
B. Five-and-one-half-day week: 44 hours.
Temporary or provisional employees shall be employed on a weekly or
hourly basis, as the Board of Trustees shall order and direct.
All regular employees shall be entitled to those holidays which are
officially recognized by the State of New York as legal holidays and shall
receive their usual pay for those holidays.
Regular employees shall be entitled to the following vacation periods,
with pay:
A. After the completion of one year of employment: one week.
B. After the completion of two years' employment and
thereafter: two weeks.
C. After the completion of 10 years' employment and
thereafter: three weeks.
The Village Board may, in its discretion and for good cause shown, grant
an employee temporary leave with or without pay, as it shall determine on
the facts of the particular case. Nothing contained herein shall alter or
prejudice any rights an employee may have under any statute of the State of
New York.
It shall be the duty of the immediate supervisor of all employees to
keep and maintain a record of each employee under his supervision, and such
supervisor shall certify to the Village Clerk on a weekly basis the number
of hours worked by each such employee.
All employees whose period of employment is otherwise fixed by law shall
be discharged only for cause and upon prior notice and opportunity to be heard.
All other periods of employment shall be as fixed by the Board of Trustees
at the annual meeting.
These rules and regulations shall remain in force and effect until such
time as they are amended or modified by resolution of the Board of Trustees.
