From and after the effective date of this chapter, the township shall
assign street or road numbers to all buildings in the township which have
heretofore not been numbered and shall give notice to the registered owner
and to the occupant of each building of the number so assigned. In all cases
of new construction, the township shall assign a number at the time the building
permit is issued. Nothing herein contained shall be construed to relieve such
owner and occupant of the duty to ascertain such assigned street number.
Within 60 days from the effective date hereof or the date of receipt
of a number from the township, whichever is later, every owner and occupant
of every building within the township shall cause the number so assigned or
heretofore assigned to be posted, painted or carved upon the street side of
the building or on the entrance gatepost or mailbox or on any permanent post
or structure located between the building and the street on which it fronts,
in such a manner that it can be read during daylight hours from the road or
street by persons of normal vision. Nothing herein contained shall require
a school, church or public building or other institution to display the assigned
number on the building if, in lieu thereof, a sign containing the number and
identifying the building is so placed that it can be read during daylight
hours from the road or street by persons of normal vision.
No use and occupancy permit shall be issued unless the number assigned
is displayed in accordance with the provisions of this chapter.
Any owner or occupant who fails to comply with the provisions of this
chapter shall be in violation of the provisions of this chapter and shall,
upon summary conviction before a District Justice, be sentenced to pay a fine
of not less than $10, nor more than $25 for each offense, as well as the cost
of prosecution. A new and separate offense shall be deemed to have been committed
for each seven days that a violation exists. Such fines shall be collected
and distributed as like fines are now collected by law.
