No license shall be issued, transferred, or
renewed by the Pawtucket City Council until such applicant certifies
that it possesses insurance for workers' compensation coverage if
the applicant for the license is required to maintain such coverage
under Rhode Island General Laws § 28-29-1 et seq.
It shall be a violation of this article to provide
a false or fraudulent certification of workers' compensation coverage
and shall be grounds for the denial or revocation of any license issued,
modified or renewed in reliance upon said certification.
Failure to maintain workers' compensation coverage
or to notify the City Clerk within five business days after receipts
of any notice of termination, suspension or revocation of workers'
compensation coverage shall be grounds for the suspension or revocation
of the applicant's license.
Nothing in this article shall be construed to
create or constitute a liability to or a cause of action against the
City in regard to the issuance or nonissuance of any license for failure
to provide evidence of workers' compensation coverage.
The City Clerk is directed to take appropriate
actions to require a certification, and such other evidence as is
deemed appropriate, of applicant's workers' compensation insurance
coverage.
