The "Abington Zoning Bylaw and Map" adopted
October 2, 1962 and all subsequent amendments thereto is hereby amended
in total and a revised "Abington Zoning Bylaw and Map" hereinafter
called "this bylaw" is adopted pursuant to the authority granted by
Chapter 40A of the General Laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
and amendments thereto, herein called the "Zoning Enabling Act" and
the powers granted to the Town under the Home Rule amendment to the
Massachusetts Constitution.
The purposes of this Zoning Bylaw are to promote
the health, safety, morals, convenience and general welfare of the
inhabitants of Abington; to lessen the danger from fire and congestion
and from the hazards of flood water inundation; to conserve health;
to secure safety from fire, panic and other dangers; to provide adequate
light and air; to protect and conserve the value of property; to prevent
overcrowding of land; to avoid undue concentration of population;
to preserve and increase the amenities of the Town; to conserve natural
conditions; to facilitate the adequate provisions of transportation,
water, sewerage, schools, parks, and other requirements; and to improve
and beautify the Town by encouraging the most appropriate uses of
land within the Town under the provisions of Chapter 40A of the General
Laws as amended.
In accordance with these purposes, the use,
construction, erection, establishment, movement, repair, alteration,
enlargement, height, appearance, location, and occupancy of buildings
and structures and the uses and occupancy of premises in the Town
of Abington are hereby regulated and restricted as hereinafter provided.
