The Council shall appoint a Clerk for the term prescribed by law. Prior to his or her appointment, he or she shall have been qualified by training and a minimum of five years' experience in a comparable municipal office to perform the duties of the office. He or she shall serve as Clerk of the council and have such other functions, powers and duties as are provided by Township of Bridgewater Code.
A. 
The Clerk shall:
(1) 
Keep the minutes and records of the proceedings of the Council and of any Council committees upon request of the Chairman of the committee.
(2) 
Preserve and compile all ordinances and resolutions, and at the close of each year, with the advice and assistance of the Township Attorney, the Clerk shall compile, codify and bind all the ordinances and resolutions then in effect, in conformity with the plan and system of the Township of Bridgewater Code and the Clerk shall properly index the record books, compilation or codification of ordinances and resolutions and provide for their publication.
(3) 
Have custody of the Township seal and affix it to such books, papers and documents as may be authorized pursuant to law.
(4) 
Have and take custody of all official books, papers, maps and documents of the Township for which no other repository is provided by Charter or ordinance, and preserve and keep them safely.
(5) 
Provide office space, secretarial and clerical services for the Councilmen in the discharge of their official duties.
B. 
A Councilman desiring that certain administrative action be taken on a matter or certain information be made available to said Councilman shall transmit, in writing, through the Township Clerk his requests to the Mayor and department head, and said request is to be acknowledged within five days of receipt and the desired information is to be furnished within a reasonable time.
C. 
A Deputy Municipal Clerk shall be appointed by the Council at such compensation as the Council may from time to time determine, for a term of three years. Such Deputy Municipal Clerk shall have such duties as the Clerk may assign and shall, in the absence of the Clerk, have the powers, functions and duties of the Clerk.
