It shall be unlawful for any occupant or owner
of a dwelling, a place of business or real estate within the corporate
limits of Leonardtown to permit snow or ice to remain upon the public
sidewalks abutting his, her, its or their property for more than 36
hours from the last snowfall or freeze.

Any person, firm or corporation violating the
provisions of this article shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon
conviction thereof, shall be subject to a fine not to exceed $1,000
or to imprisonment for a term not to exceed six months, or both.
In addition to the fine hereinabove provided,
when it is called to the attention of the Commissioners of Leonardtown that snow or ice has been permitted to remain upon the
public sidewalks abutting a dwelling, a place of business or real
estate within the corporate limits of Leonardtown for more than 36
hours, the Commissioners of Leonardtown shall order the removal of
said snow or ice by sending a notice to the occupant or owner of said
dwelling, place of business or real estate to remove the same within
eight hours from the receipt of said notice, and, in the event that
the occupant or owner refuses to comply with the terms of said notice,
the Commissioners of Leonardtown shall have said snow or ice removed
from the public sidewalks and shall charge the costs and expenses
of its removal to the occupant or owner. The costs and expenses incident
to such removal may be recovered by the Commissioners of Leonardtown
by appropriate legal action.
