Borough of Fort Lee, NJ Chapter 228 Garage Sales

§ 228-1 Definitions.

As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:

GARAGE SALE

Includes but shall not be limited to the sale of merchandise to the public in residential zones, which merchandise is on display anywhere in or upon said residential premises.

§ 228-2 Permit required; fee.

No garage sale shall be held or conducted without first obtaining a permit for same from the Borough Clerk's office. A fee of $10 shall be charged for each permit issued.

§ 228-3 Number of permits.

No more than two permits shall be issued per premises per year.

§ 228-4 Number of days.

Each permit shall be issued for no more than three days.

§ 228-5 Hours of operation.

Hours of operation for a garage sale shall begin no earlier than 9:00 a.m. and shall end no later than 6:00 p.m.

§ 228-6 Extension of permit.

A permit may be extended by the Borough Clerk's office in the case of rain.

§ 228-7 Initial violation; violations and penalties.

A. In the event of violation of this chapter, to wit, the conducting of a garage sale without a permit, the enforcing agency shall issue a written warning for the first offense.

B. Thereafter, subsequent offenses shall be treated according to general penalty sections.[1]
