There shall be a Department of Tax Assessments, the head of which shall be the Tax Assessor. Prior to his or her appointment, the Assessor shall be qualified by holding a certificate pursuant to N.J.S.A. 54:1-35.30.
The Tax Assessor shall:
A.
Have, perform and discharge all the functions, powers and duties prescribed by law for a municipal assessor.
B.
Maintain adequate assessment records of each separate parcel of real property assessed or exempted.
C.
Maintain a current tax map of the Township as a public record and cause to be recorded thereon all changes in ownership or character of the real property assessed, employing for that purpose the facilities of other departments as provided by the code.
D.
Report to the Township Manager as to equalization proceedings and other matters involving the County Tax Board and make recommendations as to action to be taken in that regard.
A.
The office of Assistant to the Tax Assessor is hereby created.
B.
Duties. The Assistant to the Tax Assessor shall assist the Township Tax Assessor in all duties required by law of the Township Tax Assessor or as shall be directed by the Township Tax Assessor or by the Township Council. The Assistant to the Tax Assessor shall also be empowered to perform all of the duties required by law of the Township Tax Assessor in the absence or disability of the Township Tax Assessor, except those which by law only the Assessor may perform.
