There is hereby created a Senior Citizens Advisory Committee of the
Borough of Maywood.

A. The Senior Citizens Advisory Committee shall consist
of 15 members, to be appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of
the Council. The initial appointment shall be for a term of one year for five
members, a term of two years for five members and a term of three years for
five members. Thereafter, all terms shall be for a term of three years, with
each term expiring on December 31 of the last year of said term or unless
and until a successor shall have been appointed and qualified or unless sooner
removed. In addition, the Mayor shall also assign a member of the Borough
Council of Maywood to be a nonvoting member of the Senior Citizens Advisory
Committee.
B. Officers. Each year at the January meeting, the members
of the Committee shall designate one member among themselves to act as Chairperson,
another member to act as Vice Chairperson and a third member to act as Secretary.
C. The Committee may establish bylaws for the conduct of
its business and may establish a quorum for the transaction of business, subject
to the review and approval of the Mayor and Council.
D. The members of the Senior Citizens Advisory Committee
shall serve without compensation.
E. Removal of members. The Mayor and Council shall have
the sole authority to remove any member of the Senior Citizens Advisory Committee
for whatever cause the Mayor and Council shall deem appropriate. It is established
that the failure to attend at least six of the Committee's meetings per
year shall constitute cause for removal, and the Chairperson shall notify
the Mayor and Council of such cases.
The Senior Citizens Advisory Committee shall have the following powers
and duties:
A. To collect and file data regarding the various beneficial
programs for senior citizens from federal, state, county and local governments
and, upon request or in its discretion, to distribute such information to
such persons and in such manner as it deems appropriate.
B. To act as liaison between the Borough of Maywood and
the various federal, state and county agencies concerned with the problems
of the aged and to provide information and assistance in obtaining government
benefits available to senior citizens.

C. To conduct hearings to identify the problems and needs
of senior citizens residing in the Borough of Maywood and, where possible,
to provide assistance in obtaining solutions to such problems.
D. To recommend measures to meet the needs of senior citizens
in the Borough of Maywood and to recommend to the Mayor and Council for local
legislative action such proposals and projects as the Committee deems necessary
and appropriate.
E. To sponsor and arrange for programs of information for
senior citizens on topics relating especially to senior citizens, to include
but not be limited to social security benefits, health, tax information and
governmental assistance.
F. To assist the Mayor and Council in the administration
of any residential program or other special program for senior citizens which
may be established by said Mayor and Council and as directed by them. It is
not the intent hereof that the Mayor and Council relinquish, surrender or
reduce any power reserved to the local governing body by federal, state, county
or municipal legislation and regulation.

G. On the first day of October of each year, to present
to the Mayor and Council an annual report. Such report must include the following,
but need not be limited thereto:
(1) A summary of the previous year's activities.
(2) An outline of anticipated activities of the Committee
for the coming year.
(4) Identification of current or anticipated problems for
senior citizens of the borough.
(5) Suggestions for solutions of the problems relating to
senior citizens of the borough.
The Senior Citizens Advisory Committee shall maintain records and minutes
of its meetings and activities and shall provide a copy thereof to the Borough
Clerk for appropriate filing.

The Committee shall meet not less than once every month, with the exception
of July and August.
