[Adopted as §§ 3-6 through 3-9 of the 1965 Code]

The Inspector of Buildings shall, in addition to the express duties and responsibilities imposed upon him or her by the provisions of Chapter 143 of the General Laws, be charged with the following duties:
A. 
The survey and inspection of all buildings and the enforcement of all ordinances relating to the construction, erection, alteration, repair, removal and safety of buildings, and he or she shall pass upon all questions relating to the strength and durability of buildings, structures and materials.
B. 
He or she shall examine all applications, plans, specifications and drawings submitted therewith before a permit shall be issued.
C. 
He or she shall sign and issue all permits and notices required to be issued by the terms of this article, unless otherwise expressly provided.
D. 
[1]He or she shall examine or cause to be examined all buildings in the course of erection as often as necessary and make written records of all violations of this article.

Editor’s Note: Former Subsections D, E, F and J, which charged the Building Inspector with the duties of the care of all City buildings, oversight of building repair, charge of all City carpenters’ tools and materials, and serving as Clerk of the Property Committee, were repealed 2-15-2011 by Ord. No. 019-2011. Said ordinance also redesignated former Subsection G as Subsection D and former Subsections H and I as Subsections E and F, respectively.
E. 
He or she shall examine all buildings reported to be insecure or dangerous or which may be damaged by fire or accident and make a written record stating the nature and amount of such damage.
F. 
He or she shall examine all buildings under application to be removed, razed, enlarged, altered or built upon and make a written record of the condition of the same.
No person regularly employed by the Inspector of Buildings shall be engaged or employed in any other business during regular business hours or be interested in any other way in furnishing labor, materials, plans or specifications to the City.
