The Inspector of Buildings shall appoint, subject
to the approval of the Mayor, and from the classified civil service
list, an Inspector of Gas Piping and Plumbing in accordance with the
provisions of MGL c. 142, § 11, and may remove him or her
and fix his or her compensation in accordance with the provisions
of that chapter.

The Inspector of Buildings shall appoint from
the civil service list an Assistant Inspector of Plumbing and Gas
Fittings, who shall act in the absence or disability of the Inspector
or who shall aid and assist the Inspector when called upon by the
Inspector so to do. He or she shall also act as the City Plumber.

The Inspector of Gas Piping and Plumbing, appointed
in accordance with this article, shall have charge of the Plumbing
Division of the Public Buildings Department, subject to the supervision
of the Inspector of Buildings. He or she shall not be employed or
engaged in any other business or occupation or be interested in and
contract for furnishing labor or materials to the Public Buildings
Department.
