The purpose of this article is to provide for competent prosecution of cases before the Municipal Court.
Pursuant to the provisions of N.J.S.A. 2B:12-27, there is hereby created the position of Municipal Prosecutor.

The Municipal Prosecutor shall be an attorney in good standing admitted to practice before the courts of the State of New Jersey, to be appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of Council for a one-year term.
The duties of the Municipal Prosecutor shall be as follows:
A. 
Preparation and trial of all concerned cases before the Highland Park Municipal Court.
B. 
Cooperation with the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office in processing indictable offenses.
C. 
Assistance in the instruction of Borough police officials in current legal standards in connection with investigation and arrest.
D. 
Monitoring of cases coming before the Municipal Court from arrest through disposition.
E. 
Provide other assistance to the Borough, the Police Department and individual police officers reasonably necessary for the promotion of criminal justice and Municipal Code enforcement.
F. 
Represent, under the supervision of the State Attorney General or County Prosecutor, the state, county or municipality in any matter within the jurisdiction of the Central Municipal Court or any other Municipal Court, if any, in accordance with Chapter 95, paragraph 14, P.L. 1996.[1]
