As used in this chapter, unless the context or subject matter otherwise
requires, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
APPRENTICE ELECTRICIAN
A person employed by a licensed master electrician performing electrical
work for which a permit is required under the direct and immediate supervision
of a journeyman electrician or the licensed master electrician. An apprentice
must be 18 years of age.
BOARD OF ELECTRICAL EXAMINERS
The Board of Electrical Examiners of the City of Oneonta, New York,
established pursuant to § 20, Subdivision 27, of the General City
Law.
JOURNEYMAN ELECTRICIAN
A person skilled by education and training in the installation of
electrical wiring and equipment, and one who meets any of the following qualifications:
four years' experience doing electrical work for which a permit is required
under the supervision of a licensed master electrician or three years'
experience doing electrical work for which a permit is required under the
supervision of a licensed master electrician, plus the equivalent of one year
schooling at an accredited electrical trade school or in an approved apprentice
training program.
LIMITED RESIDENTIAL ELECTRICIAN
Any person who possesses a limited residential electrician's
license in accordance with the provisions of this chapter and is therefore
permitted to engage in the business of installing, altering, maintaining and
repairing any electrical systems and/or equipment to be used for supplying
electrical energy for light, heat, power and smoke detectors in new or old
dwellings intended or designed for or used only as the home or residence of
not more than three distinct families. A limited residential electrician may
not engage in the business of installing, altering, maintaining or repairing
intrusion alarm systems, fire alarm systems and sprinkler systems, unless
licensed by New York State for that purpose.
MASTER ELECTRICIAN
Any person who possesses a master electrician's license in accordance
with the provisions of this chapter and is therefore permitted to engage in
the business of installing, altering, maintaining or repairing any electrical
system and/or equipment to be used for supplying electrical energy for light,
heating and power. A master electrician may not engage in the business of
installing, altering, maintaining or repairing intrusion alarm systems, fire
alarm systems and sprinkler systems, unless licensed by New York State for
that purpose.
RESTRICTED MAINTENANCE LICENSE
A person who can perform electrical maintenance work limited to and
including the repair and replacement of receptacles, thermostats, ballasts,
and lighting fixtures; lights to be replaced with a similar type.
