All brakes shall be maintained in good working
order and shall be so adjusted as to operate as equally as practicable
with respect to the wheels on the opposite side of the vehicle.
A.
The service brakes upon any motor vehicle or combination
of vehicles shall be adequate to stop such vehicle when traveling
20 miles per hour within a distance of 30 feet upon dry asphalt or
concrete pavement surface free from loose material where the grade
does not exceed 1%.
B.
Under the road conditions mentioned in Subsection A of this section, the hand brake shall be adequate to stop the vehicle within the distance of 55 feet. The hand brake shall be adequate to hold such vehicle stationary on any grade within the Town of Milton upon which the vehicle may be operated.
A.
Every motor vehicle when operated upon a highway or
street shall be equipped with brakes adequate to control the movement
of and to stop and hold such vehicle and any trailer or semitrailer
attached thereto, including two separate means of applying the brakes,
each of which means shall be constructed so that no part which is
liable to failure shall be common to the two. A motorcycle need be
equipped with only one brake.
A.
No person shall drive any motor vehicle on a public
street within the corporate limits of the Town unless such motor vehicle
is equipped with a muffler in good working order and in constant operation
to prevent excessive or unusual noise.
B.
No person shall use a muffler cutout on any motor
vehicle upon any public street within the corporate limits of the
Town.
C.
As used in this section "motor vehicle" shall mean
and include any vehicle, which is self-propelled, except farm tractors.
Any person violating any of the provisions of
this article shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction
thereof before a court of competent jurisdiction, shall be fined not
less than $25 nor more than $200 and shall pay the costs of prosecution.
