This chapter is enacted to promote the health and safety of Village residents and others within the Village limits.
A. 
No person shall build any bonfire or burn any paper, hay, straw, lumber, rubbish, shavings, packing, leaves or other waste or combustible material within the Village limits of the Village of Newark Valley.
B. 
Small, contained fires for the sole and express purpose of food preparation within a self-contained barbecue unit or pit, manufactured or built for the sole purpose of barbecuing food, are permitted, provided that such fires are either on private property or in areas designated by the Village. Every fire kindled as herein permitted shall be continuously under the care and supervision of a competent person from the time such fire is kindled until it is extinguished.
Any person violating any of the provisions of this chapter shall be guilty of a violation and, upon conviction thereof, shall be punishable by a fine not exceeding $250 for each offense or imprisonment for a period not exceeding 15 days, or by both such fine and imprisonment.
