The purpose of this chapter is to abolish the office of Receiver of Taxes and Assessments in the Town of Tonawanda, New York.
The office of Receiver of Taxes and Assessments in the Town of Tonawanda, New York, is hereby abolished. The powers and duties of that office shall be transferred to the office of the Town Clerk of the Town of Tonawanda, New York.
This chapter shall be subject to a mandatory referendum by special election.[1]

Editor's Note: Local Law No. 4-1996 was subject to a mandatory referendum, where it passed 6-26-1996.
This chapter shall take effect upon the affirmative vote of a majority of the qualified electors voting thereon at said special election and the filing with the office of the Secretary of State in accordance with the applicable provisions of law.
