The Board of Trustees for the Village of Greenport desires to implement
§ 1402, Subdivision 3, of the Real Property Tax Law of New York
State providing for the voluntary termination of the status of the Village
of Greenport as an assessing unit, as now provided for in the Village Law
and the Real Property Tax Law. It is also the intent of this Article to terminate
any and all legal responsibility for the review of the assessments of real
property located within the Village of Greenport.
On and after the date this Article takes effect, the Village of Greenport
shall cease to conduct assessments of real property for village real property
tax purposes.
The position of Assessor in the Village of Greenport is hereby abolished.
The Board of Assessment Review in the Village of Greenport is hereby
abolished.
On and after the effective date of this Article, taxes in the Village
of Greenport shall be levied on a copy of the applicable part of the assessment
roll of the Town of Southold with the taxable status date of the Town of Southold
controlling for village purposes.
This Article shall take effect immediately upon its filing with the
New York Secretary of State; provided, however, that this Article is subject
to a permissive referendum as provided in Article 9 of the Village Law, and
the Village Clerk shall forthwith proceed to notice such fact and administer
such referendum, if required by a petition.
Within five (5) days of the effective date of this Article, the Board
of Trustees of the Village of Greenport shall file a copy of this Article
with the Clerk and with the Assessor of the Town of Southold and with the
New York State Board of Equalization and Assessment.
