The Incorporated Village of Massapequa Park,
wishing to maintain reciprocity with the county and surrounding communities,
does hereby adopt the current National Electrical Code in total.

The following additions and addenda will be
included in the Electrical Code for the Village of Massapequa Park:
A. All electrical work shall be performed in a workmanlike
manner as prescribed by the Village Code and subject to final inspection
by a certified electrical inspection agency approved by the Board
of Trustees.

B. All applications for permits for electrical work within
the boundaries of the Incorporated Village of Massapequa Park shall
be accompanied by a set of drawings, in duplicate, containing the
work to be done, and a description of materials to be used.
C. The Incorporated Village of Massapequa Park further
adds the following conditions to ensure positive protection for its
residents:
(1) Number 12 copper wire shall be the minimum size allowed.
It may be Romex (with ground) or BX cable. Any other approved wire
in electrical raceways must also maintain a minimum size of Number
12 copper wire, except control wiring.
(2) All habitable rooms in new constructions in residences
with double-hung windows or casement windows shall have one (1) three-wire
independent circuit within two (2) feet of one (1) window in each
room, to be used for air-conditioning units. [Three-wire circuit shall
be made available one hundred ten (110) volts or two hundred twenty
(220) volts hookup]. A separate circuit is required for each air-conditioning
unit.
(3) All furnaces and electric hot-water heaters shall
be wired with BX cable and feed lines to said furnaces, etc., to be
encased in conduits. Thin wall tubing will be acceptable and suitable.
(4) Aluminum wire, with the exception of service entrance
cable, shall be prohibited in both residential and commercial establishments.
(5) Service entrance requirements shall conform to Long
Island Lighting Company requirements and specifications and shall
be subject to inspection and approval by said utility company.
(6) All receptacles (kitchen, bathroom and outside receptacles)
shall be protected by a ground fault circuit interrupter wired to
the branch circuit supplying these receptacles.
(7) All swimming pools, hot tubs, whirlpools and similar
equipment, including pump and lighting or circuitry to supply electrical
power to the pools, hot tubs, whirlpools and/or similar equipment,
shall be protected by ground fault interrupters. All outdoor receptacles
or light wiring within a radius of ten (10) feet of the said pools
shall be protected by ground fault interrupters and wired to the branch
circuit supplying these receptacles.
(8) The use of Romex and plastic conduit is prohibited
in all commercial and industrial buildings. BX and conduit shall be
used exclusively.
D. This section shall take effect immediately.
