The purpose and intent of this chapter of the Town of Saratoga is to protect the public health, welfare and safety of the residents and visitors of the Town of Saratoga. The Town Board of the Town of Saratoga finds that registering and hiring a peace officer is necessary to enforce its local laws, and to maintain order in the Town Court, and exercise any other power authorized by any general or special law or charter whenever acting pursuant to his or her special duties, provided such power is not inconsistent with the provisions of the Penal Law or this chapter.
For the purpose of this chapter only, the following words shall be interpreted and defined as follows:
PEACE OFFICER
A person or constable as authorized and defined by New York State Criminal Procedure Law § 2.10(1).
A. 
The Saratoga Town Board shall be empowered to register, hire, and terminate peace officers pursuant to the authority granted it under New York State Criminal Procedure Law § 2.10(1), as regulated by the Division of Criminal Justice Services.
B. 
Compensation for peace officers shall be set by the Town Board on an annual basis.
This chapter shall take effect immediately.
