Every owner or occupant of property shall install any mailbox solely
in compliance with the rules and regulations of the United States Postal Service.
The mailbox shall be installed in such a manner which will not interfere with
the speedy and efficient removal of snow and/or ice from the road right-of-way
by the Highway Department. The installation of a mailbox within any public
right-of-way (25 feet from the center line of the road) shall be at the sole
risk and liability of the owner or occupant of the abutting real property,
and the Town of Warwick shall not be liable for any damage to any such mailbox,
except as provided below.
When curbside mailboxes have been erected according to United States
Postal Service specifications (Operations Manual Section 632.1, a height of
41 to 45 inches from the road surface and six to eight inches from the road
edge), the Town's liability for snowplow-damaged mailboxes will be limited
to repair or replacement not to exceed $50.
