As used in this article, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
ALUMINUM CANSA lightweight, silver-white, metallic element which is used to make beverage cans.
CONSTRUCTION AND DEMOLITION DEBRISSource-separated nonputrescible recyclable material generated from the construction, alteration, repair, maintenance and/or demolition of structures. This material shall include concrete, bricks, block, ferrous and nonferrous scrap, asphalt, asphalt shingles, recyclable wood scrap, and any other recyclable material generated from the construction, alteration, repair, maintenance and/or demolition of a structure or structures.
CORRUGATED CARDBOARDCardboard of the type used to make cardboard boxes, cartons, pasteboard and similar corrugated and kraft paper material.
GLASSAll products made from silica or sand, soda ash and limestone which are transparent or translucent and used for packaging or bottling of various matter and all other materials commonly known as glass; excluding, however, blue and flat glass, commonly known as window glass.
GRASSGreen herbage sending up spike-like shoots or blades.
HIGH-GRADE PAPERWhite typing and ledger paper, white note pad paper, copier paper, carbonless computer printout, Manila tab cards and file folders.
HOUSEHOLD-GENERATED BATTERIESAny type of button, coin, cylindrical, rectangular or other shaped, enclosed device or sealed container consisting of a combination of two or more voltaic or galvanic cells, electrically connected to produce electric energy, composed of lead, lithium, manganese, mercury, mercuric oxide, silver oxide, cadmium, zinc, copper or other metals, or any combination thereof, and designed for household use, including any alkaline, manganese, lithium, mercuric oxide, silver oxide, zinc-air or zinc-carbon battery, nickel-cadmium rechargeable battery or sealed lead rechargeable battery.
LEAVESThose materials naturally formed from trees and bushes that are suitable for composting and mulching purposes.
MIXED PAPERA mixture of all types of paper including, but not limited to, corrugated, high-grade paper, newspaper, magazines, telephone directories, wrapping paper, box board, books, grocery bags and junk mail.
NEWSPAPERPaper of the type commonly referred to as "newsprint" and distributed at stated intervals, usually daily or weekly, having printed thereon news and opinions and containing advertisements and other matters of public interest. Expressly excluded, however, are all magazines or similar periodicals as well as all other paper periodicals of any nature whatsoever.
RECYCLING CENTERAny facility designed and operated solely for receiving, storing, processing and transferring source-separated nonputrescible or source-separated commingled nonputrescible metal, glass, paper, plastic containers and corrugated and other cardboard or other recyclable materials approved by the Department of Public Works.
REGULATIONSSuch rules, implementations, dates, schedules of times and such other requirements promulgated by the Recycling Coordinator in conjunction with the Superintendent of the Department of Public Works and approved by the Mayor and Council as may be necessary to carry out the purposes and objectives of this article.
SOLID WASTEAll garbage and rubbish normally produced by the occupants of commercial, industrial and residential property and disposed of by private or public pickup.
SOURCE-SEPARATED RECYCLABLE MATERIALSRecyclable materials, including, but not limited to, aluminum cans, construction and demolition debris, corrugated cardboard, ferrous scrap, glass, grass, high-grade paper, household-generated batteries, leaves, mixed paper, newspaper, tin cans, used motor oil and white goods, which are kept separate and apart from residential, commercial and institutional solid waste by the generator thereof for the purposes of collection, disposition and recycling.
TIN CANSCans made of steel or tin. The most common are tin-plated steel cans which contain food.
WHITE GOODSDomestic or household bulky items, including washing machines, dryers, refrigerators, stoves, water heaters, dishwashers and household appliances, of primarily ferrous metal.
