Pursuant to Section 11 of the Uniform Fire Safety
Act (P.L. 1983, c. 383), the New Jersey Uniform Fire Code shall be locally enforced
in the Municipality of Palmyra.
The local enforcing agency shall be the Bureau
of Fire Prevention in the Borough of Palmyra.
The local enforcement agency shall enforce the
Uniform Fire Safety Act and the codes and regulations adopted under it in all
buildings, structures and premises within the established boundaries
of Palmyra, other than owner-occupied one- and two-family dwellings,
and shall faithfully comply with the requirements of the Uniform Fire
Safety Act and the Uniform Fire Code.
The local enforcing agency established by §
121-2 of this article shall carry out the periodic inspections of life hazard uses required by the Uniform Fire Code on behalf of the Commissioners of Community Affairs.

A. The local enforcing agency established by §
121-2 of this article shall be under the direct control of a Fire Official who shall report to the Mayor and Council and, at their direction, the Borough Administrator.
B. The Fire Official shall be in communication with the
Fire Chief with any and all information arising from periodic inspections
of premises, new construction or renovations that could pose response
problems for the Fire Department or jeopardize the life and safety
of residents or responding fire fighters. The Fire Official shall
also convey all information on new fire suppression systems or fire
hydrants that have been added or deleted within the boundaries of
the Borough.

A. The local enforcing agency shall be under the supervision
of a Fire Official who shall be appointed by the Mayor, with the advice
and consent of the Borough Council, and whose term of office shall
be three years commencing January 1 of the year of initial appointment.
B. Inspectors and employees. Such inspectors and other
employees as may be necessary in the local enforcing agency shall
be appointed by the Mayor, with the advice and the consent of Council,
upon the recommendation of the Fire Official. When these appointments
are necessary, they shall be made on an annual basis.
C. Removal from office. Inspectors and other employees
of the enforcing agency shall be subject to removal by the Mayor and
Council for cause. Each inspector and employee to be so removed shall
be provided an opportunity to be heard by the Mayor and Council or
their designated hearing officer.
D. In the event of an opening in the office of Fire Official,
the Borough shall advertise such opening as required by law and shall
inform any of the members of the Independence Fire Company No. 1 whose
qualifications meet the job description requirements and interview
for the position along within any other applications received.

Pursuant to Sections 15 and 17 of the Uniform
Fire Safety Act, any person aggrieved by any order of the local enforcement
agency shall have the right to appeal to the Board of Appeals of the
County of Burlington.

The inspection fee schedule for non-life-hazard
uses shall be as follows:
A. For common areas of multifamily structures, the fee
shall be $30 per structure.
B. For all other nonresidential structures, the fee
shall be set by the square foot, determined by the outside dimensions
of the structure(s) being inspected as follows:
