This chapter shall apply to all public tennis courts operated by the
City of Somers Point.
The following general rules shall apply to all public tennis courts
at all times:
A. Players shall observe proper tennis etiquette at all
times.
B. Court attendants and tennis professionals hired by the
City of Somers Point are in complete charge of the courts and have the right
to eject any person for actions that are offensive or detrimental to the well-being
of other players on the courts.
C. Only players are permitted on the courts.
D. Chairs shall not be permitted upon the courts or within
the perimeter of the mesh fence.
E. Profane language or the drinking of alcoholic beverages
is prohibited within any tennis court complex. Food and soft drinks are not
permitted on the courts.
F. Sneakers or tennis shoes must be worn on the courts,
and proper tennis attire must otherwise be worn. Brief bathing suits are not
permitted, and tops must be worn by all players.
G. No animals are permitted in or around the tennis court
complex.
H. Persons must play in a manner so as not to interfere
with players on adjoining courts. Players on any one court shall limit the
number of tennis balls in play at any one time to four balls.
Public tennis courts may be subject to reservations as the Recreation
Commission and the Somers Point City Council deem necessary, but during the
period of June 1 through September 15, the following rules and regulations
shall apply:
A. Only Somers Point residents may make reservations between
the hours of 7:50 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. Said residents shall produce the appropriate
proof of residency.
B. All other reservations must be made between 9:00 a.m.
and closing.
C. Reservations must be made in person by the individual.
One individual is not permitted to register personally for another. No reservations
shall be taken by telephone.
D. Reservations must be written or confirmed by the attendant.
E. Reservations must be made three days in advance.
F. Reservations are limited to two hours per day.
G. Reservations must be paid for in advance.
H. No reserved courts may be canceled. In the event of rain,
rain checks will be given to those with reserved courts where advance payment
has been made.
I. Reserved courts will be held for 15 minutes after the
hour. In the event that the scheduled player does not arrive within said period,
the court will be lost by the reserved party for that hour, and no money shall
be refunded.
The fee schedule for the Somers Point public tennis courts shall be
established by the Somers Point Recreation Commission.
All courts shall open at 8:00 a.m. Unlighted courts shall close at dusk,
and lighted courts shall close when said lights are turned off by the City
of Somers Point.
The City of Somers Point is authorized to engage one or more teaching
professionals so as to establish a comprehensive tennis program. With the
exception of such teaching professionals as the City of Somers Point may hire,
instruction for profit on any public tennis court within the City of Somers
Point shall be prohibited.
The City of Somers Point reserves the right to establish such other
rules and regulations from time to time as may be necessary for the proper
operation of the tennis courts.
Any person who violates any provision of this chapter shall, upon conviction
thereof, be subject to a fine not exceeding $1,000 or a term of imprisonment
not exceeding 90 days or a period of community service not exceeding 90 days,
or any combination of the foregoing.
