A. 
If any employee of the city, whether regular, reserve or substitute policeman or fireman, or other employee, per diem or otherwise, shall be enlisted in time of war, or shall have been drafted to serve in the armed services of the United States in time of war or peace, such service in the armed services of the United States shall be credited in full to the service record of such employee to the city in computing his service for pension purposes.
B. 
If any such employee shall return from military service to the service of the city, he shall be permitted to compute and pay into his respective pension fund the amount of money required by applying the pension rate to the period of military service. Thereupon the proper pension fund shall credit such employee with the period of municipal service represented by such military service.
C. 
This section shall apply to all present employees of the city but shall not apply to military service performed prior to entry into municipal service.
