This article shall apply to all two-family and
multifamily homes, whether or not owner-occupied, and to all residential
uses above office or commercial establishments, together with the
land upon which said premises are located.
All rooms and spaces used for residential purposes
shall be protected by one-hundred-ten-volt smoke detectors with internal
battery backup, and such other detection systems meeting the standards
of the within article. Normal spacing requirements shall be observed.
These detectors shall be hardwired to the building's electrical service
with no intervening wall switch. At least one such smoke detector
shall be placed adjacent to each sleeping area and shall be located
on or near the ceiling. Detectors shall be interconnected so that
if any one is activated, all will sound. All wiring and wiring methods
shall be in strict compliance with all applicable codes.
Within 10 days of installation, the owner or
manager of the building shall contact the Fire Inspector, who shall
certify that the detectors and system have been installed in accordance
with the requirements of this article and other applicable codes.
The owner or manager of the building shall maintain and periodically
test said detectors and system to ensure that they are kept in working
order.
