The Fire Department shall consist of Crisfield Fire Department, Inc., and its members.
The personnel of the Fire Department shall serve under the direction of the City Fire Chief, who shall be appointed by the Mayor and Council of the City of Crisfield, upon the recommendation of the membership of the Fire Department. The membership of the Fire Department shall consist of the volunteer members of Crisfield Fire Department, Inc., and be subject to the bylaws of that corporation. The members of the Fire Department shall not be deemed employees of the City of Crisfield.
All Fire Department property, whether real, personal or mixed, and regardless of how titled, shall be deemed the property of the City of Crisfield. However, unless the City has expressly agreed to do so, in writing, the City shall not be liable or responsible for any lien or encumbrance affecting such property.
The Fire Department's operations shall be directed by the Fire Chief. The Mayor and Council shall not direct or participate in the direction of such operations except where they deem necessary for the public good of the City of Crisfield.
If the City or Crisfield Fire Department, Inc., desire to terminate the relationship formalized by this chapter, that party shall give to the other party written notice at least 90 days prior to taking any action to terminate the relationship. In that event, the Fire Department will secure its own liability insurance, which shall take effect within 24 hours of the termination of the relationship.
