No person shall be appointed as a member of the special law
enforcement officer force of the Borough of Westville or for a position
designated herein as support personnel of the Borough of Westville
Police Department unless he is able to satisfy all of those requirements
set forth in § 56-98 herein.
All special law enforcement officers to be appointed by the
Borough of Westville must be citizens of the United States and comply
with the statutory criteria set forth in N.J.S.A. 40A:14-146.
Special law enforcement officers shall be appointed by the Mayor
and Council for a term not to exceed one year. Upon expiration of
the term of a special law enforcement officer and/or termination of
his employment as above described, the powers and duties of such officer
shall be deemed terminated.
The employment of special law enforcement officers and/or support
personnel may be terminated at any time by the Mayor and Council with
or without cause as allowed by the applicable state law.
Special law enforcement officers shall have all the duties and
responsibilities of police officers as allowed under the laws of the
State of New Jersey.
Special law enforcement officers shall be under the supervision
and direction of the Chief of Police and shall perform their duties
pursuant to applicable laws of the State of New Jersey. Special law
enforcement officers shall comply with all the rules and regulations
applicable to the conduct and decorum of the regular police officers
of the Borough of Westville. Prior to appointment of a special law
enforcement officer, the Chief of Police shall ascertain the eligibility
qualifications of the applicant and make a report thereon to the Mayor
and Council of the Borough of Westville.
