The Domestic Violence Unit was created in 1992 in response to the growing problem of domestic violence in York County.
[Adopted 2-1-1992]
The unit consists of three full-time prosecutors who handle protection from abuse violations as well as a regular caseload.
The Domestic Violence Unit has created and implemented a domestic violence protocol which is used by all law enforcement in York County. The primary purpose of the protocol is to establish guidelines and procedures to be followed by police officers and other personnel involved in the police response to domestic calls. The main goal of the protocol is to afford maximum protection and support to victims of domestic violence through a coordinated program of law enforcement and victim assistance.
In furtherance of this goal, the Domestic Violence Unit is continually updating the protocol and informing police officers of the rapid changes being made in domestic violence law.
