Section 18 of the Public Officer's Law authorizes public entities (including towns and any political subdivision thereof) to provide for the defense of its employees in civil actions or proceedings arising out of any alleged act or omission which occurred, or allegedly occurred, while the employee was acting within the scope of his public employment duties, upon certain terms and conditions more fully set forth in § 18, and further to indemnify and save harmless its employees from certain judgments or claims arising while its employee was acting within the scope of his or her public employment or duties, all as described in § 18.
As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
EMPLOYEE
As defined in said § 18 of the Public Officer's Law.
A. 
The Town of Jerusalem hereby agrees to confer the benefits of § 18 of the Public Officer's Law of the State of New York upon its employees as therein defined and further agrees to be held liable for the costs incurred under the provisions of said § 18, all subject to and in accordance with said § 18 as it now reads or may hereafter be amended.
B. 
The Town of Jerusalem adopts the term "employee" as so defined in said § 18.
These benefits shall supplement and be available in addition to defense or indemnification protection conferred by any other enactment.
