This chapter shall be known as the "Local Law to Prohibit Transportation of High Level Radioactive Waste Including Spent Fuel Rods."
The purpose of this chapter is to prohibit the transportation of high-level radioactive waste, including spent fuel rods.
Notwithstanding any law, order or regulation to the contrary, no high-level radioactive waste, including spent fuel rods from nuclear reactors, shall be transported into the Town of Jerusalem, Yates County, New York.
Whoever violates the provisions of this chapter shall be punished by a fine of $1,000 or imprisonment for six months, or both, and vehicles or equipment used in connection with the violation shall be seized.
The town does this under Municipal Home Rule Law § 10, Subdivision 2.
