The Board of Trustees of the Village of Caledonia may, by resolution,
require the owner or owners of real property in the village to cut, trim or
remove brush, grass, rubbish or weeds from such property upon notice to such
owner or owners.
Upon default for seven days after notice, the village may cause such
brush, grass, rubbish or weeds or other materials to be cut, trimmed or removed
by the village, and the total cost may be assessed against the real property
on which such brush, grass, rubbish or weeds are found and shall constitute
a lien and charge on the real property on which it is levied until paid or
otherwise satisfied or discharged, and shall be collected by the Village Treasurer
in the manner provided by law for the collection of delinquent taxes.
If the owner of such lands is a nonresident, such notice to cut, trim
or remove such brush, grass, rubbish, weeds or other materials, mailed to
such owner at his last known address, shall be sufficient service thereof.
A resident owner may be notified in the same manner as a nonresident owner
or he may be notified personally.
Any person, firm or corporation who or which shall violate any of the
provisions of this chapter shall be punished by a fine not exceeding $250
or 15 days' imprisonment, or both.
