[HISTORY: Adopted by the Borough Council of the Borough of Jersey Shore 11-9-1971 by Ord. No. 881 (Ch. 1, Part 4C, of the 1996 Code). Amendments noted where applicable.]
A Jersey Shore Historical Commission is hereby formed, to be composed of five members. Each member shall be appointed by Council, shall serve without pay, and shall either reside in or be employed in the Borough. Initial terms shall be as follows: two members, three years each; two members, two years each; one member, one year. At the expiration of the initial terms, all terms shall be for a period of three years. The Commission shall meet within 30 days of the adoption of this chapter, shall elect a chairman and shall adopt bylaws to govern its procedure.
The duties of the Jersey Shore Historical Commission shall be advisory in nature and shall be as follows:
A. 
To hold regular, public meetings.
B. 
To recommend to Council a plan for the preservation and restoration of historical properties within the Borough of Jersey Shore, including a designation of such properties; an analysis of costs of acquisition, repair, restoration and maintenance thereof; and a timetable for the accomplishment of such work.
C. 
To explore the possibilities of obtaining financial assistance for furtherance of the above plan and to advise Council accordingly.
D. 
To make recommendations to Council prior to November 1 of each year with respect to the expenditure of Borough funds and furtherance of the above plan.
E. 
To explore the possibility of obtaining from the commonwealth official historical designations for historical properties within the Borough as provided by the laws of the commonwealth.
F. 
To coordinate planning with other historical committees and organizations, where appropriate.
