The Sheriff shall be responsible for the operation
of the Sheriff's Office and its facilities, programs, and services
for the County of Delaware, and shall have all the powers and duties
granted by commonwealth law, by laws applicable to Counties of the
Second Class A for Sheriffs, by the Home Rule Charter, or by ordinance
of Council.
The Office of Sheriff shall be headed by an
independently elected Sheriff who shall be responsible to the electorate
of Delaware County for the performance of his duties, subject to the
budgetary approval of Council.
Nothing herein shall operate to relieve the
Sheriff or his sureties from liability upon their official bond.
Prior to the appointment of any person as a
Chief Deputy or any other deputy sheriff, the Sheriff shall file with
the Office of Judicial Support the name and photograph of such person,
together with an affidavit of such person setting forth the following:
A. His or her full name, age, and residency address;
B. That he or she is a citizen of the United States of
America and at least 18 years of age;
C. That he or she has resided in the County for a period
of at least two years immediately preceding the filing;
D. That he or she has a valid Pennsylvania driver's license;
E. That he or she is a high school graduate.
