Pursuant to the laws of the State of New York, the Board of
Trustees hereby adopts the following rules and regulations for examination
and hearing of charges made or preferred against any member of the
Police Department of the Village of Suffern.
Any member of the Police Department of the Village of Suffern
against whom removal or other disciplinary action is proposed shall
have written notice thereof and of the reasons therefor, shall be
furnished a copy of the charges preferred against him and shall be
allowed at least eight days for answering the same in writing.
The hearing upon such charges shall be held by a hearing officer
appointed by the Board of Trustees who shall, for the purposes of
such hearing, be vested with all of the powers of the Board of Trustees
and shall make a record of such hearing which shall, with his recommendations,
be referred to the Board of Trustees for review and decision.
The person against whom charges are preferred may be represented
by counsel or by a representative of a recognized or certified employee
organization and may be permitted to summon witnesses on his behalf.
Compliance with technical rules of evidence shall not be required.
