Light.
(1)
Habitable space shall have natural light provided by means of one or more windows, skylights, transparent or translucent panels, or any combination thereof that face directly on open space.
(2)
Kitchenettes, bathrooms and toilet rooms shall be provided with electric light of sufficient intensity and so distributed as to permit the maintenance of sanitary conditions and the safe use of the space and the appliances, equipment and fixtures.
(3)
Stairs shall be provided with electric light to allow safe ascent and descent.
(4)
All space shall be provided with electric light and fixtures appropriate for the intended use.
(5)
Laundry rooms, furnace rooms and similar nonhabitable spaces shall be provided with electric light appropriate for the intended use of such rooms.
(6)
Exterior lighting shall be maintained in operating condition.
B.
Ventilation.
(1)
Habitable space shall have natural ventilation provided by means of openable parts of windows or openable skylights or other openings in exterior walls that face directly on open space.
(2)
Kitchenettes, bathrooms and toilet rooms shall be provided with ventilation of sufficient intensity and so distributed as to permit the maintenance of sanitary conditions and the safe use of the space and the appliances, equipment and fixtures.
(3)
Kitchens without windows shall be provided with mechanical ventilation.
(4)
All spaces which contain central heat-production equipment shall be ventilated.
(5)
Shower rooms, locker rooms, massage rooms, dressing rooms and laundry rooms shall be provided with either natural or mechanical ventilation.
(6)
Garages within or accessory to dwellings and multiple dwellings shall be provided with electric light.
(7)
Ventilation shall be provided in unheated attics, spaces below flat roofs and crawl spaces. Location and net areas of ventilation openings shall be such as to minimize deterioration of structural members from condensation or other causes, in conformity with generally accepted standards.
