Water supply.
(1)Â
Potable water from an approved source shall be available at all times
in residential buildings. The domestic water supply system of the
building shall be connected to such approved source and shall not
be subject to contamination. When supplied from a public source, the
potable water supply system shall not be connected to private or unsafe
water supplies.
(2)Â
Water supply systems shall be installed and maintained so as to provide
at all times a supply of water to plumbing fixtures, devices and appurtenances
in sufficient volume and at pressures adequate to enable them to function
satisfactorily and without undue noise under all normal conditions
of use.
(3)Â
Water supply systems shall be installed and maintained so that water
used for purposes of cooling or heating shall not be reintroduced
into the domestic water supply system nor be distributed through such
equipment to plumbing fixtures.
(4)Â
Hot-water supply systems shall be provided with safety devices arranged
to relieve hazardous pressures and excessive temperatures.
(5)Â
Where a system may be subject to backwater into the potable supply,
suitable provisions shall be made to install an approved backflow
prevention device.
C.Â
Sewage drainage system. The provisions set forth in Article III of Chapter 385, titled "Regulation of Public Sewers," shall apply as if set out at length herein.
(1)Â
Sewage, groundwater and stormwater drainage systems shall be maintained
so as to function properly and be kept free from obstructions, leaks
and defects.
(2)Â
No person shall permit grey water or any kind of liquid or filth
to run from the premises in or upon any gutter, street, sidewalk or
sewer or throw or cause to be thrown any material into, or cause any
obstruction or injury to, any drain, ditch or watercourse or in any
way divert or stop the course thereof.

Stormwater drainage.
(1)Â
Roofs and paved areas, including yards and courts, shall be drained.
(a)Â
Storm drainage shall be conveyed to an adequate and approved
system of stormwater disposal where available.
(b)Â
Storm drains shall be discharged in such manner that water will
not flow onto the land of an adjoining landowner or onto sidewalks,
streets, roads, highways or public rights-of-way in the Village.
(c)Â
All stormwater disposal shall have an acceptable drainage system
self-contained upon the premises and adequate to dispose of the water
therein.
(2)Â
Where a drainage system may be subject to backwater, suitable provisions
shall be made to prevent its overflow into the building by an approved
backflow prevention device.
(3)Â
Leaders and gutters, if used, shall be constructed of noncombustible
material, except that wood leaders and gutters may be used for buildings
not more than three stories high and in historic buildings.
The use and maintenance of all fuel storage tanks shall be governed by the provisions set forth in Article XI of the Nassau County Public Health Ordinance, regulating the storage, handling and control of toxic and hazardous materials. If any conflict shall arise between the provisions of the Public Health Ordinance and this chapter, the provision or requirement which is more restrictive or which establishes the higher standard shall prevail.

Fuel gas.
(1)Â
General requirements.
(a)Â
Fuel gas piping systems shall be installed and maintained so
as to remain gastight, safe and operative under conditions of use.
(b)Â
Gas services, gas meters and gas-pressure regulators shall be
located so that they are protected from damage.
(c)Â
An easily accessible shutoff valve or cock shall be provided
in the piping in close proximity to and ahead of every outlet for
gas appliance.
A.Â
General requirements. In dwellings, except one-family dwellings,
heating equipment shall be maintained so as to provide a minimum indoor
temperature between October 1 and March 31 of 68° F., measured
at a distance of two feet and more from exterior walls and at a level
of five feet above the floor.
B.Â
Smoke control. Fuel-burning heat-producing equipment shall be installed
and maintained so that the emission or discharge into the atmosphere
of smoke, dust, particles, odors or other products of combustion will
not create a nuisance or be detrimental to the health, comfort, safety
or property of any person.
C.Â
Prohibited locations for heat-producing equipment. Fuel-burning boilers,
furnaces and hot-water heaters shall not be located in occupied space
except where it is separated by an approved fire separation consisting
of vertical and horizontal construction.
D.Â
Temporary or portable heating units. Heating equipment of temporary
and portable design in confined spaces shall be adequately ventilated
so as to prevent dangerous accumulation of products of combustion.
Chimneys, flues, smokestacks, smoke pipes, gas vents and their
supports and connectors shall be installed and maintained so as to
be structurally safe, durable, smoketight, noncombustible and capable
of safely conveying the products of combustion to the outer air.
